BIOCHAR USAGE |
RECOMMENDED INSTRUCTIONS |
Garden Bed Planter Box, Flower bed |
1-5 Litres / m2 We recommend that the top 4″ of your garden bed uses a biochar+compost/potting mix to ensure the seeds you plant will benefit as they sprout and roots grow. The remaining depth of your garden bed should continue with compost and topsoil amendments. |
Potting Medium Adding biochar as part of a potting mix |
5-10% of volume |
Compost Blend Blending biochar with compost blend |
5-10% of volume |
Trees Planting new trees Dressing existing trees |
1-5 Litres / m2 Best when used in the area around the tree’s root zone. It is best to let the biochar mix with the soil for a week before planting. For seedlings, consider the area the roots will grow into in future. |
Horticulture/Farms Large Scale applications/Crops |
2-10 m3/ha targeted at root zones General recommendations: Rice/Corn/Wheat: 300-500kg/ha Fruit Trees: 15-20kg/tree (1 year old and above tree) Vegetables/Flowers: 500-700kg/ha |
FINE BIOCHAR POWDER USAGE |
RECOMMENDED INSTRUCTIONS |
Improve lawns/turf grass OPTION 1: USE AS PRE-MIX SLURRY Mix 300g to 3 litres of water to cover 5m² area of turf grass. OPTION 2: DIRECT APPLICATION Use 150g to cover every m² of turf grass/lawn. |
Option 1: Apply the slurry to your lawn using a sprayer designed for wet powders. Stir the slurry regularly to ensure biochar is spread evenly. For best results, include usual liquid fertilizer in the slurry. Option 2: Sprinkle biochar over the lawn and water it in using a hose or watering can. For best results, include your usual liquid fertilizer. We suggest wearing a dust mask to prevent inhaling any biochar dust. |
Reduce root rot Use 5-7% by volume of the plant pot (or 3-5cm) |
Pour biochar into the bottom of the plant pot. Then add soil and make a small hole for the plant's roots to settle in. Water the plant. |
Boost seedling growth Mix 500g with 3 litres of fertilizer in an open container |
Leave biochar-fertilizer mix to charge in the open container for 3-4 days. Then add about half a pot of soil and mix it well. Use a handful of this mixture at each planting point, and mix gently with surrounding soil to plant seedling. |
Boost compost/worm farm Mix in approximately 800g-1kg for every m² of compost area. Mix in 800g-1.5kg per full 150L compost bin, according to fullness. |
Mix into compost. Compost is great for charging biochar with nutrients before adding to soil and this will help improve the odour and effectiveness. |
Improve water & nutrient retention of soil Mix 350g with 3 litres of water to cover each 5m² of soil. |
Using a watering can, sprinkle the mix onto soil. This works well on existing plants. |
